Fidgeting/stimming? Not unless it's causing you pain/permanent damage. You mentioned your finger gets red sometimes - maybe at those moments you can just find a different stim. In my opinion, we shouldn't aim to cease self-soothing behaviours all together, just find others to add in the mix so that we are not injuring ourselves or leaning too heavily on one in particular.

Ever gotten yourself some fidget toys? Kmart have heaps now, in all diff forms. My latest fav are these stretchy noodle thingies - they look like this:

I love em cos they allow me to do hand flapping movements, and I can stretch em out, spin em round, all sorts. So far, they've kept my attention the longest, out of all the stim toys I've purchased over the years since getting diagnosed ADHD.

Re: Not Coping

Nice, you must be good at finding things on marketplace @Blackbird11

Re: Not Coping

my kiddo has a heap of those stretchy things @Jynx likes em, pretty sure right now it’s permanently glued to his hand, just carries it…

Re: Not Coping

I mostly do it when I'm anxious so at uni, therapy etc

I don't think taking that along to class would be good hahaha. @Jynx

It looks cool though for home

Re: Not Coping

@creative_writer I think so long as you're doing it with your pdoc's guidance, and it's helping you get through a real rough patch, then it's all good. I know you don't wanna rely on it but hey, sometimes it really is our best option.

Yeesh, just looked at weather for next week, Wednesday is gonna suuuuuck.

Yeah these ones might be a bit disruptive, but there's plenty of stim toys that are more subtle. And they're waaaay more accepted these days as awareness of their benefits increases/

Re: Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8, there is no clear cut answer of whether you should or shouldn’t do it. It all comes down to whether it is causing you harm.

Those stretchy noodle thingies look so good @Jynx. Maybe I should pick some up, might be a good replacement for rubbing. I think my joints are pretty hypermobile and sometimes I don’t realise how much I am stretching myself till my hand gets swollen.

Pdoc said the dose I am on is low, and he is okay with me taking more. The weather sucks so much on Wednesday, and I’m going to be at uni. I’ll be sticking around at uni on Thursday after class, my sister is dragging me into a social event. I won’t be able to dress up, I’ll be at uni since morning but I can take tribal headpiece jewellery to wear

Re: Not Coping

@creative_writer you got EDS by any chance? It is pretty highly represented in ND folks - I think I have it, but not so much the hypermobility version (I have more mobility than 'normal' but not everywhere and not enough to be super noticable. But because my knees 'lock' backwards, my posture has always sucked), but my skin is VERY sensitive, super soft, and I bruise easily.

Oh true, is it a social event you're looking forward to or more just an obligation? Yes definitely bring a little something with you hehe.

Re: Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8 that monitor looks awesome!

So glad to hear you are feeling better.

I have chronic neck pain and the pain pills interact with my night time meds if I take them close together, which I did last night.

As soon as the aquatic centre/gym near me reopens (they've closed for refurbishment) I'll be going back and doing my exercises again so I won't have to rely on pain relief as much.

I was watching one of the music channels on Foxtel last night and thought of you as they were playing Taylor Swift in honour of her touring in Aus. They also have the Eras Tour movie available to rent too but I'm not sure I can justify $25 to watch it at the moment.

Did you hear back about the diabetes job?
I got another "thanks but no thanks" reply for a job I applied for so it's back to Seek for me.

Hope your evening is going well 🤗
