Something’s not right

Not Coping

Re: Tw Not Coping

Thank you so much for sharing what’s on your mind @tyme. I think that’s brave of you.

I do hear you. It’s a really hard thing to be dealing with. I’m having a similar issue. How often do you see the dietitian?

Have you ever consider the hello fresh meals? I don’t do them but people I know do and say it’s good.

Is there anything we can do to help with motivation?

Re: Tw Not Coping

Oh course it's okay @Birdofparadise8 . I really appreciate it.

All this head knowledge I know...

I do all of these things. The only thing is my sweets (cakes, chocolates, biscuits).

In terms of exercise, I spend hours in the pool, go up and down stairs all day...

I don't normally eat rice, but if I do, I only have basmati.

My other issue is also portion sizes. I need to make sure I stick with a smaller plate.

Once again, I REALLY appreciate your thoughts.

Oh, and a dietician - I do have one. I've been seeing them for a year. Once again, they tell me the same things.

During COVID, I was the healthiest I'd been. I went for at least 3 walks a day, and ate regular meals. Since going back to work, I eat on the run it seems. It's as though I don't know when I'm going to eat the next time so when I eat, I really DO eat.

Does that even make sense?

Re: Tw Not Coping

I see the dietician throughout the year about 6 times a year @Captain24 . I can contact her any time. She's really good. And we all know it's not about diets. It's about a lifestyle change.

Yes, I have ordered Hello Fresh before. It's OKAY. I'm not going to say it's great, but it's, as I said, ok.

I think from next week, I'm going to properly meal prep, monitor portion sizes, focus on more veges (maybe beans), reduced cake slices etc.

I don't mind chatting about this. I don't want to go off meds just because of weight. The benefits of the meds outweigh the side effects.

I really appreciate your understanding and support @Captain24 @Birdofparadise8

Re: Tw Not Coping

My dietitian has suggested to me to have frozen meals in the freezer. @tyme. Just the ones from the supermarket as long as they have veggies in them.

She suggested to me to try changing things gradually. Sometimes I food prep and others I rely on the freezer. Most of the stuff that I do prep for is pretty easy and basic.

My problem lately is stress and boredom so I’m failing miserably! Even though She has given me suggestions for comfort food and replacements for some things.

Re: Tw Not Coping

I've got that too @Captain24 . I have freshly cooked frozen meals in the freezer. What I'm going to do it get smaller containers. That way, it reduces the portion size.

I have it good in that I'm not a stress and boredom eater.

Rather, I go for LONG periods without eating, then when I eat, I really eat. It honestly reminds me of the wild side of animals. Who eat so much when there is food available in case they don't see food for the next month...

I find if it's okay for me to talk about these things on the forums, it keeps these thoughts and my behaviour in check. It also gives me insight into ways I can improve.

However, at anytime if you want me to stop talking about it, please let me know. I'm mindful it can be triggering for some. @Captain24 @Birdofparadise8

Re: Tw Not Coping

If you feel your eating on the run you could meal prep.

If you like oats I love overnight oats with chia seeds and protein powder are so good and you can make them the night before.

Yeah I don’t eat that much rice either just good to know what options can be better then white so I though to mention it.

If portion control is your worry maybe if you having more high volume low calorie food that would help with the portion as you could eat more of it and not compromise your kilojoule intake.

I totally get that is there a way you can make sure you have a break to eat so you know you have this time to enjoy some food.

Also sweets are all okay in moderation I know myself my diet isn’t perfect so I need to take some of my own advise but you know if you like sweets.

I made a sweet potato brownie and it was so good as it had less sugar and processed things like a normal one would like what I made yesterday.

I hope I have given you a few suggestions @tyme

Re: Tw Not Coping

Yes @Birdofparadise8 - that certainly helps.

So... in brief:

1. monitor portion sizes

2. make GRADUAL changes

3. meal prep

4. include plenty of veges

5. make time to eat

6. seek whole grain alternatives

@Birdofparadise8 @Captain24 @creative_writer - have you tried wholegrain pasta? It's the weirdest thing in town... tastes so strange.

Also, does anyone know Konjac noodles? I eat this sometimes. I'm very careful because some say it is bad for you while others say it is fine.... do you know anything about it?

Re: Tw Not Coping

You have actually helped me @tyme. I haven’t been able to admit to myself how bad I’ve gotten over the last nearly 3 weeks.

I am totally a stress eater and it’s not carrot sticks!

Just a suggestion I don’t know if it works or is ok.  It can you set an alarm at meal times to prompt you to eat? That’s just if it’s a case of forgetting or losing track of time. It may prevent the overeating when you do eat?

Re: Tw Not Coping

Hi @tyme I am about to take my meds and go to sleep after my hectic day.

I did my usual walk this morning while gs2 smashed out a pb earning himself a breakfast date with me.

We went out again this afternoon but it turned out to be an expensive trip as my car had a flat battery 😢 it now has a new $250 battery and I had Hungry Jacks for dinner.

Thats my day…just doing some Uni work before sleep then off to nippers in the morning with gd2.

Hope all are ok @Birdofparadise8 @Captain24 @creative_writer

Re: Tw Not Coping

Yes basically

Also with the oats I love strawberry cheesecake overnight oats they are so sweet and delicious but not too high in kilojoules.

Yeah not that great if I was trying to skip pasta I would just go for veggies like such zucchini spirals. Though Vetta smart is a pasta brand that is lower has a high protein and high fiber and low carb it is really yummy.

I will do my research on it and report back with my opinion if you like @tyme
