Sorry I'm new to this, my dad has been made involuntary for 5 weeks now. He is 76 has no prior mental health issues or police convictions. He is being held and medicated against his will after suffering delerium from prescribed medicine for blood pressure by his GP. This elderley abuse and a corrupt way to keep numbers up in a inhumane hospital.. This damage to my fathers health and wellbeing will be irreversible and morally so wrong.. My son's 21st is this week and instead of celebrating this with his grandson my father is locked up like a criminal and said he would rather be in jail than be stuck in "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" will other patients defecating and urinating in his room when he is asleep.

Hello @Helpmydad
That sounds awful. I can understand you would be outraged.
Overmedicaton can be a huge issue. Was he at home being treated by his gp or in an aged care place.
Recently I had a friend who was terribly overmedicated and had a doctor friend who talked the staff into reducing the meds to a "reasonable" level.
It is great your dad has you to advocate for him.
Is there an ombudsman or legal office who can help you in your state or city?

@Helpmydad HI Helpmydad so sorry to hear that you and your father are in this perdicament. I agree with Appleblossom overmedication is a huge problem in older patients.. As Appleblossom said was he at home or in a aged care unit when he was admitted? How long has he been in the mental health unit? He won't be in the wards longer than necessary to stablize his medications but in the mean time I can appreciate it is hell for him and yourself (I have spent time in a public mental health unit and hated every part of it).
Have you spoken to his doctors about your concerns re over medications being the issue? Again I am really sorry to see you and your dad go through this. I hope my post has helped a bit. Please keep us all posted re your father. Love greenpea xx
