@Jaques, and everyone else who is in a caring role for those with BPD or emotionally dysregulated, Family Connections is also delivered online too. This is very much based on DBT principles too..we can all use the skills in our relationships, BPD or not.https://www.bpdaustralia.org/family-connections-program/

Couldn’t agree more. Not everyone fits into a neat little box. We are all unique with our experiences.

I guess/hope the nurse's comment was an exaggeration, but how sad that the answer to Bipolar and Schizophrenia was seen as medication only (and often still is). Maybe the new skills required to deal with BPD will have additional benefits in helping people with other challenges

@DrZoidberg @Wol

I've just looked for some services in Tassie through The BPD Foundation and have come up with:

TAS - Awareness, Belonging, Connection (9-16 Oct)
https://mhct.org/mentalhealthweek/

Safe Spaces & Safe Haven Cafes
Safe Haven CafeSafe Spaces or Safe Haven cafes are an alternative to the Emergency Department for free mental health support, and aim to reduce the incidence of suicide. Life in Mind has prepared this summary as they roll out around Australia.

@DrZoidberg, in DBT we often refer to making lemonade out of lemons...there is nothing quite like being in the presence of other people, I agree!

Question 5.

What are some of the strengths of people with BPD, and how do these strengths support recovery?

Re: Topic Tuesday // BPD Awareness Week 2021 – Discover Creative Wellbeing // Tues 5th October, 7pm-8:30pm AEDT

Indeed @DrZoidberg !

Having been through years of treatment for my BPD, I can now help others so much more. If it weren't for my BPD diagnosis and treatment, I'd be at a loss when trying to help others.

That's why I have learnt to embrace my BPD.

Question 5.

Regarding the strengths of pwBPD,

I have moved amongst people with BPD and I can see so many similar traits. I find so many moving on to work in careers that involve helping others including nurses, volunteers, social workers, counsellors, peer workers, teachers. This is a great speaking in itself. I believe people with BPD are highly compassionate, empathetic, and passionate people. When they find something they love to do, they put their all into it. They go out and put others before themselves. They can sense, feel and know what others are going through. They care deeply for others.

What are some qualities you have noticed in people with BPD?

Re: Topic Tuesday // BPD Awareness Week 2021 – Discover Creative Wellbeing // Tues 5th October, 7pm-8:30pm AEDT

I feel that people with BPD are very empathetic. Very kind hearted people should care a lot. Very very sensitive.  deep thinkers

@Scarlet72, I'm sorry to hear that about your family. It is disappointing, when and if they are ready there is a lot they can draw upon.
