Who's Up for a Random Chat?

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

@Healandlove

Above message from @MJG017 😊

Of some doggy movies

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

Not too sure about good dog movies here. Lots out there, and many sad endings. You need a happy one!

It has been a very big three weeks of work and not a lot of time to myself. Project finished today and seemingly really well. I'm looking forward to a weekend off, Monday in lieu and Tuesday public holiday. Time to quieten down the brain. I might reengage the xbox (though should clean the house too)

People my children were raised on The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Men in Tights, and X-Men cartoons. Dr Who and Star Trek Original Series.

You don’t need anything else.

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

@tyme bet you almost didn’t recognise me with my hair cut so short 😆

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

@Healandlove what a lovely thing to do - family movie night. They are such good bonding times.

I remember doing the same thing with the former Godkids. They would fight to sit next to me and in the end the fold out sofa bed was folded out so all 4 of us could snuggle together.

If I never see Frozen, Bolt, Ant Movie or and animated Barbie movie again it will be too soon lol!!

Have a magical night my friend xo

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

We're discussing symphonic composition, comparing absolutist and program music. Also we're looking at how symphony has moved through the periods, and gradually morphed into a soup including baroque, classical, early and late romantic, modernist and now rave, hip-hop, regae, eastern and other modern genres of music.

There are still symphonies being written, but they've a much broader language now, and for that reason a lot of people find them harder to understand because most people still learn music with a music vocabulary that limited itself in the 1940s and 50s. Even rock music didn't advance musical vocab most people learn. Errolyn Waller's music is an example of very fine modern symphony most people won't understand.

So we're thinking about what is the purpose of symphony as a living art form, and not just a museum piece, and how do we move music education forward so modern symphony is enjoyable for all people.

People like Paul McCartney, and the band Pink Floyd have tried for years to move audiences out of the limits that have only been set by tradition, not by immutable fact, with limited success. My feeling is we're a lazy thinking species, and unfortunately modern symphony suffers misunderstanding because of that.

Hey @Abner , long time no see!

Sounds like your music is keeping you going 🙂 Sounds lovely!

I look forward to seeing you around a little more 🙂

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

@Oaktree , I listened to the book last night. The one about the child using AAC. I could relate to it totally! Wow!

Re: Who's Up for a Random Chat?

I know, I've been dealing with my hoarding and squalor problem as well as learning works and composers I've never performed before. It's been a challenge. While my flat was getting a forensic cleaning ihad to move out for a few days @tyme, I took the current work we're doing with me to the hotel, suffice to say the other hotel clients got a free concert for a few afternoons. I'm back in the flat, getting plenty of practice, exercise, and moving through issues and housework and living skill issues.
